About Us
The grandeur of our traditional heritage that we know in various forms of weaves, prints and embroideries of India come to life in at ‘iilika’ – a slow fashion brand that works with the artists of India who have been created artisanal handloom, hand printed, hand painted, hand embroidered fabrics generation after generation.
‘iilika’ was started by Shilpi Batra in April 2024 after years of research that went into creating the brand. Shilpi did her post graduation in Textiles and Clothing from Delhi University and took upon a managerial position in a technical textile consultancy firm. Her carrier took a turn from there on having her first child and the carrier choices were more driven towards work from home options which help her sharpen her skills in content writing, conference direction, media production and government liasoning. While she took on all challenges and opportunities that came along in time, the heart and soul were always driven to traditional and cultural heritage of traditional Indian textiles.
Traditional textiles has been her passion ever since and has been growing with time as she went deeper into the different cultures understanding their craft with a different outlook. She drowned in the beauty of regional creations and was taken away, realising how families in the remotest parts of India have depended on this as a source of income for generations all together.
That is what gave birth to ‘iilika’ a name that resonates with mother earth and reinforces the fact that our traditional Indian textiles are born from the earth, using natural fibers, natural dyes and are embellished with details that are inspired from our rich cultural heritage and history that dates back to centuries.
We welcome you to join us on a journey of handloom, hand crafted, hand embroidered, hand painted textiles of India that are as vibrant as the nation itself ...
